Lil Nas X says he’s “feeling better” after rehab and bipolar diagnosis
The pop star announced he is “doing much better” and feels “less fear in my heart” following a mental‑health episode that ended in his arrest last August. In a three‑minute Instagram video, he revealed he had spent several months in rehab, returned home to Atlanta, and has now been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
‘I’m doing much better’
The message was the first major update since the 27‑year‑old, born Montero Hill, was charged with attacking police officers after a public appearance in underpants. A judge permitted him to participate in a mental‑health programme that could see the charges dismissed.
Hill explained that his behaviour at the time of arrest was “aberrant from his normal conduct” and that he had long carried the symptoms of bipolar disorder but did not admit them previously because he feared medication and stigma.
He noted that, despite being black and gay, he now feels better, can create freely, and can “smell the roses.” He also said he isn’t prepared to return to pop stardom just yet but that new music is on the way.
Lil Nas X concluded the video by thanking fans for their support and expressing his desire to make them proud and earn personal pride. He urged listeners to keep holding him down as he moves forward in his career.
