Dawson's Creek actors have led tributes to James Van Der Beek, who has died at the age of 48 after suffering from bowel cancer.
In a hand-written statement posted on Instagram, Katie Holmes remembered Van Der Beek and his bravery, compassion, selflessness and strength, along with his appreciation for life.
Co-star Busy Philipps wrote: James Van Der Beek was one in a billion and he will be forever missed and I don't know what else to say. I am just so so sad.
Other stars who reacted to Van Der Beek's death include Reese Witherspoon, who expressed her devastation over his passing, stating she was so sad for your beautiful family.
Philipps urged her 2.4 million followers to help support Van Der Beek's family through an online fundraiser, which has raised $1.2 million to assist his widow Kim and their six children, whose ages range from four to 15.
Mary-Margaret Humes, who played Van Der Beek's mother on the show, shared heartfelt words, stating, James, my gracious warrior, you fought a hard battle against all odds with such quiet strength and dignity.
His illness began in 2023, with Van Der Beek openly discussing his diagnosis in November 2024. The actor is remembered not just for his contributions to television but for the immense love and vulnerability he displayed throughout his life.
