In brief
During a 14-hour flight, an Australian couple faced an unimaginable situation when flight attendants placed the body of a deceased passenger in an adjacent seat after failing to save her life. The couple described the experience as shocking, leading them to question the airline's support.
In a harrowing incident aboard a Qatar Airways flight from Melbourne to Doha, an Australian couple found themselves in a nightmare scenario when they were asked to sit beside the body of a deceased passenger for the final four hours of their journey. This traumatic event unfolded after a passenger collapsed mid-flight; despite desperate attempts by the flight crew to revive her, they were unable to save her life.Mitchell Ring, another passenger on the flight, recounted the scene during an interview with the Australian program “A Current Affair” on Channel 9. “They did everything possible, but unfortunately, the lady couldn’t be saved, which was heartbreaking to watch,” Ring stated. The crew initially tried to move the deceased passenger's body to business class using a wheelchair; however, they quickly realized it was not feasible due to the dimensions of the aisle and the seating arrangement.Ultimately, flight attendants requested Mr. Ring to shift to an adjacent seat, placing the body where he had been seated moments before. The emotional toll was evident, and Ring's wife, Jennifer Colin, described the ordeal as shocking, especially given her anxiety about flying. She opted to relocate to another row in an attempt to cope with the distressing situation. On landing, Mr. Ring noted that they were instructed to remain seated while paramedics removed blankets from the body, sharing that no support had been offered by the airline to mitigate their distress. In response to the incident, Qatar Airways stated that the airline had engaged with the couple to address their concerns about the experience, highlighting the need for improved passenger care in sensitive situations.
