In brief
An overnight strike by the ADF in eastern DRC killed at least ten civilians and burned several houses, with local outlets reporting that the death toll could exceed twenty as bodies remain at the scene. The attack, confirmed by a local civil‑society leader, also destroyed commercial buildings. The ADF, linked to ISIS, has been targeted by joint Congolese‑Ugandan forces since 2021.
At least ten civilians were killed in an overnight attack by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in the Cantine‑Aloya settlement of Beni territory, North Kivu, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, local media reported on Friday, 6 November 2026.
According to Xinhua, armed assailants entered the settlement between Thursday night and Friday morning, killing residents and burning several houses and commercial buildings, while the local civil‑society organisation led by Tchetche Aliamini confirmed that the attack had caused extensive property damage.
The death toll remains provisional, as some local outlets report that more than twenty people may have been killed; bodies are still at the scene and many residents fled their homes during the violence, making an exact count difficult.
The ADF, an affiliate of the Islamic State in Central Africa and a Ugandan‑based rebel group, has been the focus of joint Congolese‑Ugandan military operations since November 2021 aimed at tracking the group and neutralising it.
While local reports provide the latest confirmation of the assault and the casualties, no independent verification has yet been released, and other sources say the figures could rise as more bodies are discovered.
