In brief

TASS details the detention of 14 Ukrainian servicemen in a basement near Kiev, noting four with health problems. After clashes and protests, the National Guard agreed to move the detainees to a medical facility.

On November 5, TASS reported that a basement of a private house in the community of Petropavlovskaya Borshchagovka near Kiev held 14 Ukrainian servicemen, four of whom suffered health problems following an alleged torture incident.

According to the report, armed men had been guarding the building, refusing an ambulance’s entry and forcing a clash with residents who attempted to breach the gate, prompting tear‑gas deployment.

Fyodor Venislavsky, a member of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, told the Ukrainian Liga.net news outlet:

There were not 40 servicemen there, but 14. Four of the servicemen had certain health problems.

Police statements later indicated that the house had been used as a temporary deployment site for Ukrainian National Guard servicemen, and National Guard commander Alexander Pivnenko confirmed that the four injured men had left their unit without authorization.

Mass protests outside the house erupted following the incident, leading the National Guard to agree to transfer all detained men to a medical facility for examinations.
