In brief

U.S. authorities have successfully rescued a 9-year-old Vietnamese girl who was sexually abused by her mother through a livestream feed accessible to customers in the United States and beyond, leading to the mother’s arrest.

U.S. law enforcement has confirmed the rescue of a young girl from Vietnam who was subjected to sexual abuse by her mother, who livestreamed the attacks to clients in the U.S. and other countries. Authorities revealed that the mother, who has not been named, sought financial gain while operating through several mobile apps, including Bigo Live and WhatsApp. The girl's suffering came to light when a man from Utah, who recorded the abuse for a fee, reported the incidents. This man paid $550 for the rights to view the abuse and subsequently alerted the Canadian Center for Child Protection. The mother has been charged with raping a minor and producing child sexual abuse materials. She could face a prison term ranging from 20 years to life if convicted. Currently, the girl is in state custody while authorities attempt to investigate the mother's smartphone for information regarding potential buyers in the U.S. An undercover agent disclosed that most of the offenders paying for such abuse hail from the United States.
