In brief
Israeli authorities have launched heightened security measures following bus explosions in the Tel Aviv area, without reported injuries, amidst ongoing conflicts in Gaza and the West Bank.
On Thursday night, a series of explosions involving three buses occurred within parking lots in the Tel Aviv area, leading to immediate fears of a terrorist attack. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the incidents triggered a nationwide halt of all bus and train services as a precaution.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reacted swiftly, ordering a significant military operation in the West Bank aimed at militant strongholds and directing police to enhance security in Israeli cities to preempt further attacks. The explosions took place in Bat Yam, a city located just south of Tel Aviv. According to Tzvika Brot, the mayor of Bat Yam, unexploded devices were also discovered in nearby Holon. Brot noted that he mandated increased security patrols throughout his city and reassured residents that normal activities would continue, including school operations.Ofir Karni, the director of the Dan bus company, shared details about the last passenger who flagged a suspicious bag left on one of the buses, prompting immediate evacuation before the bus detonated. The timing of these explosions is particularly troubling, occurring amidst an already tense day for Israel, as the country grapples with the complexities of its fragile ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza and ongoing military operations in the West Bank.
