In brief

For the first time in more than a month, Israeli troops ordered the evacuation of Manoz and carried out new strikes after a Hezbollah raid was seen as a breach of the ceasefire. One person was killed and 12 wounded when a prayer hall roof in Tibnin was struck. The attack came as U.S.-sponsored talks in Rome aim to keep the ceasefire intact, while Lebanese officials report hundreds of thousands of displaced people returning home. Israel says it is responding to a ‘blatant violation’ by the Iran‑backed group while Lebanon remains in a state of heightened conflict.

Deadly strike hits southern Lebanon

Israeli forces fired on the roof of a prayer hall at the cemetery of Tibnin, killing one man and injuring twelve others, according to Lebanese media.

Earlier that week, the Israeli military released an evacuation order for the town of Mansouri – the first such instruction since 14 June – and told residents to leave in preparation for “forceful action”.

Context and background

The attack follows a trilateral framework agreed by Israel, Lebanon and the United States in late June, calling for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied territory in exchange for Hezbollah’s disarmament. Hezbollah has rejected the deal, calling its provisions “crossing all red lines”.

U.S.-sponsored talks in Rome are underway to maintain the ceasefire, but the new strikes show tensions remain high. In the wake of the conflict, more than 820 000 displaced people have begun returning home, while the UN says roughly 360 000 remain displaced.

Civilians displaced by conflict

Since the ceasefire was announced, at least 353 people have been killed in Lebanon, including 392 women and 253 children. Israeli forces report 38 soldiers and four civilians have also been killed during cross‑border incidents.

Hezbollah’s alleged violation has prompted Israel to strike again, with the latest attacks targeting buildings and villas in the Ghazaleh neighbourhood of Mansouri, leading to a surge of families fleeing to Tyre.
