In brief
Six‑year‑old Raseel al‑Balawi was hit by an Israeli helicopter strike in the al‑Mawasi camp in late July, leaving her with wounds that keep reopening and turning septic. Since then she has undergone more than 20 surgeries to try and control the infections. Witnesses confirm the tent was struck, and the Gaza health system is stretched thin fighting for residents’ survival. Israeli armed forces deny a strike was launched in that area and express regret over any civilian harm. BBC Eye Investigations has followed Raseel all summer to shed light on the challenges faced by doctors amid ongoing bombardment.

BBC Eye Investigations has spent time with Raseel across the summer, as the ceasefire falters and bombardment continues, to see the challenges doctors are facing in Gaza.
