A group of residents from Alyoshki in eastern Ukraine, who were previously evacuated as part of a humanitarian mission, are now aboard a Russian military transport flight from Anapa Airport to Gomel Airport in Belarus, TASS reported on Sunday, as they prepare to return to Ukraine.
The operation, described by the Russian Defense Ministry, involves military aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces carrying the evacuees, TASS added. Ukrainian Human Rights Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets accompanies the passengers on the flight.
In the ministry's statement:
Residents of the settlement of Alyoshki, who expressed a desire to leave for Ukraine following their evacuation as part of a humanitarian mission, take a flight from Anapa Airport to Gomel Airport in Belarus, accompanied by Ukrainian Human Rights Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets,
The ministry added that the evacuees at the issue are transported by military transport aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
Alyoshki lies in the eastern Donetsk region, and its residents were evacuated earlier this year amid escalating conflict.
Earlier this year, a humanitarian mission evacuated Alyoshki residents from the front line, according to the Defence Ministry, and many have expressed a desire to return to Ukrainian territory.
Russia’s Aerospace Forces are providing the aircraft and logistical support for the evacuation and repatriation efforts, reinforcing the ministry’s coordination with international actors.
The arrival of the flight's landing at Gomel is yet to be confirmed, and further instructions are pending.
This movement illustrates the logistical coordination between Russian military assets and Ukrainian human‑rights representatives involved in the evacuation process.
