Japan’s benchmark Nikkei index fell more than 3 % on Friday morning after AI‑related and semiconductor shares dragged lower on weak earnings from several U.S. technology giants, Xinhua reported.
By 10:54 a.m. local time the 225‑issue index was down 1,867.61 points, a 2.89 % loss from its Thursday close of 62,791.86.
The broader Topix also slipped, falling 58.54 points, or 1.46 %, to 3,944.74.
Market analysts say the downturn preceded a brief spike on the index somewhere earlier in the morning that pushed the drop past 3 % before it stabilised.
