In brief
Former Verkhovna Rada lawmaker Igor Mosiychuk said police detained a medic while she livestreamed a basement near Kiev where allegedly 40 mobilized men were held. Ukrainian National Guard commander Alexander Pivnenko confirmed the basement housed servicemen absent without leave, but some Ukrainian media question the medic’s credentials. Police claim the claim of 40 hostages is false and unverified.
Police detain a female medic in Kiev after she livestreamed a basement where mobilized men were reportedly held, former Ukrainian parliamentarian Igor Mosiychuk said on his Telegram channel. The medic, whom Mosiychuk described as a heroine, was rescuing four sick people from the building when police arrived and interrupted her broadcast.
"We had a doctor on our livestream, the heroine of the day, who effectively rescued four sick people from this house, this torture chamber... During the livestream, police arrived, the doctor said she was being detained, and the broadcast was interrupted," Mosiychuk reported.
The incident took place in Petropavlovskaya Borshchagovka on the outskirts of Kiev, where a single‑family house’s basement allegedly holds around 40 people, many of whom have injuries consistent with torture. An ambulance arrived after a medical worker received a video of the situation, and four injured men were transported to a hospital.
Ukrainian National Guard commander Alexander Pivnenko said the basement is being used to detain servicemen who left their units without authorization, and that the four men taken by ambulance were National Guard personnel.
Some Ukrainian media have reported that the medic was not an employee of the clinic she claimed to represent, and that journalists have been instructed to discredit her. The police have also denied the claim that 40 hostages were held in the basement, stating the information is fake and unverified.
A TASS report added that a crowd had attempted to force entry into the building, claiming it was occupied. The medic’s livestream showed people in critical condition and many with injuries that suggested torture, but the police claim the hostages’ numbers remain unsubstantiated.
