According to Xinhua, a 19‑year‑old Australian woman was critically injured in a drive‑by shooting outside a boxing event near Brisbane, and she died in hospital on Thursday morning. The victim has been identified in other reports as Vana‑Reese Schuster‑Togiatau, 19, from Jimboomba, and was shot in the neck and head at Fitzys Loganholme on Saturday night.
Queensland Police Service Detective Inspector Ian Galpin told reporters on Thursday that the incident is now the subject of a homicide investigation and that around 80 detectives are working on the case. He also said that gang involvement has not been ruled out.
Three men, aged 27, 37 and 38, were also hospitalized with injuries sustained in the shooting. Two of them have since been discharged.
An ABC News story that was recently archived identified the victim as Vana‑Reese Schuster‑Togiatau and noted that she was shot outside a Logan pub, but the page is currently unavailable. Nine.com reported that the teen was believed to have been an innocent bystander at the scene.
