In brief
A fatal collision between a passenger bus and a dumper truck in western Pakistan left eight dead and 30 injured, with medics treating victims at Ayub Medical Complex. Rescue 1122 dispatched seven ambulances to the scene, and authorities speculate a tire burst caused the bus driver to lose control. The death toll may rise as several injured passengers remain in critical condition.
On Friday, Xinhua reported that a passenger bus traveling from Gilgit to Rawalpindi collided with a dumper truck near the Havelian interchange in Abbottabad district, killing eight people and injuring 30, including five children and six women.
Rescue 1122 officials said seven ambulances and a rescue vehicle were dispatched to the site, evacuating the victims and providing emergency assistance. All 30 injured passengers were taken to Ayub Medical Complex for treatment, where medics feared the death toll could rise as four were in critical condition.
The bodies of the eight deceased, reportedly from Gilgit, were transported to various hospitals in the area. Local police indicated that initial reports suggested a tire burst may have caused the bus driver to lose control, leading to the crash.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the cause of the accident, while medical teams remain on standby to care for the injured. The incident remains a stark reminder of road safety challenges in Pakistan’s northwestern provinces.
