Myanmar exported just over 200,080 tonnes of fishery products in the first seven months of fiscal 2026‑27, earning more than $343 million, the Department of Fisheries announced on Friday.
The figures were released by the government’s news agency Xinhua, which said the volume fell from 234,107 tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. The drop represents a decline in annual export activity for the country’s fisheries sector.
Myanmar ships fishery products to about 40 countries and regions, with the majority going to China, Thailand, the Middle East and Europe, the statement added. The Department stressed that despite the decline, the export market remains diversified across the region and beyond.
Analysts point to the shift as a potential response to global market dynamics and domestic supply constraints, though the Department did not detail the factors behind the lower volume. Investors in the fishery supply chain are watching the data closely, as a further decline could impact local processing firms and coastal communities that depend on export trade.
The Department’s report, published on November 6, 2026, comes amid broader efforts by the government to boost aquaculture production and attract foreign buyers, especially in the high‑value seafood segments.
