Three songs recorded by legendary Australian rock vocalist Chrissy Amphlett in 1998 have resurfaced from a garage and will be released as an EP titled Some Times this Friday.
Amphlett, best known as the frontwoman of Divinyls and the composer of the chart‑topper I Touch Myself, passed away in 2013. Although she had recorded the trio of new tracks with former Split Enz frontman Tim Finn, the recordings were thought lost until Finn rediscovered them on a 2‑inch tape in his Sydney garage in 2023.
Finn recalls the 1998 session as a time of creative renewal. "She was looking for something new, something different in her life musically," he said. He and drummer Charley Drayton, who later married Amphlett’s former bandmate, wrote the songs over several days before turning to the studio for recording.
After the session wrapped, Finn took the tape home but never fully realized the recordings. In 2023, Drayton contacted Finn, and together they confirmed the tape’s pristine condition and agreed to share the music with the public.
The release of the EP offers fans and historians a rare window into Amphlett’s artistic evolution and underscores how forgotten musical gems can be preserved in the most unlikely places.
