LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) — A tragic shooting incident occurred at a hotel in Lawrenceville, Georgia on Sunday morning where a man being questioned by police shot two officers after inviting them into his room, resulting in the death of one officer and serious injuries to another.

According to authorities, Officer Pradeep Tamang, aged 25, died from injuries sustained during the altercation, while his colleague Officer David Reed is hospitalized in serious but stable condition. The officers had been dispatched to the hotel after a report was made from another state indicating the fraudulent use of a credit card.

Police Chief J.D. McClure provided details during a news conference, explaining that the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Kevin Andrews of Decatur, Georgia, welcomed the officers into his room where they began discussing the fraudulent incident when he suddenly produced a handgun and opened fire on the officers.

The officers' commendable duty to protect the community has been recognized, with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp echoing appreciation for law enforcement personnel who face daily dangers to ensure public safety.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation, which will determine the appropriate charges against Andrews. It remains unclear if Andrews has legal representation as the case unfolds.
