TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Law enforcement officials have intensified their investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie. Roadblocks were established near Nancy's Tucson home late on Friday to facilitate the ongoing search.
Multiple law enforcement vehicles, including FBI and forensics units, were observed passing through the barricades set up approximately two miles from her residence. However, authorities have not disclosed specific details concerning their findings or ongoing activities.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on February 1, prompting widespread concern as her health conditions require daily medication. It was noted that she has a pacemaker and has previously suffered from high blood pressure and heart issues, increasing the urgency of the search.
Authorities uncovered blood at her home’s front porch, prompting further investigations that have included analyzing thousands of tips and reviewing surveillance footage. Since her disappearance, the FBI has recorded over 13,000 tips while the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has handled at least 18,000 calls related to the case.
As part of the investigation, recently released videos show a masked and armed individual at Guthrie’s home the night she vanished. These short clips have been described by experts as potentially containing significant clues that could help in solving the case.
Despite the unsettling circumstances, Savannah Guthrie and her family remain hopeful as they await any significant breakthroughs from the ongoing investigation. The combined efforts of local and federal law enforcement hope to bring clarity to a distressing situation that has captured the attention and sympathy of many.
