Woman seriously injured in shark attack at Sydney beach
A 35‑year‑old woman was seriously injured after a shark bite at Coogee Beach, Sydney, police said.

New South Wales Police reported that emergency services were called to Coogee Beach on Saturday morning. Bystanders pulled the victim from the water, performed first aid and the woman suffered serious injuries to her arm and leg.
She was subsequently airlifted by helicopter to a hospital, and several adjacent beaches were closed as a precautionary measure.
Eyewitness Nicola Logan described a “massive pool of blood” in the water and frantic attempts to rescue the victim.
This incident follows a fatal shark attack near Perth earlier this month, as well as a fatality that occurred in May, underscoring the heightened risk of shark encounters along Australian coastlines.
Since 1791, there have been almost 1,300 recorded shark attacks in Australia, with over 260 resulting in death. Most attacks are not fatal, but many popular swimming and surfing spots implement protective measures to mitigate risk.
