The White House has unveiled renderings for a 250ft (76m) arch that Donald Trump wants to have built in the US capital. The new monument, nicknamed the Arc de Trump in homage to its Parisian inspiration, will be the GREATEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL Triumphal Arch, anywhere in the World, the US president said on social media on Friday.
The administration stated it has officially filed the plans with the Commission of Fine Arts, a panel composed of Trump allies, which will review the proposal next week. The arch is just one of Trump's controversial projects aimed at giving Washington D.C. a makeover in his distinctive style, while his plans for a White House ballroom remain embroiled in legal disputes.
If approved, the monument would surpass the height of both the US Capitol building and the Lincoln Memorial. Trump asserted it would be a wonderful addition to the Washington D.C. area for all Americans to enjoy for many years to come!
The renderings depict gold inscriptions reading One Nation Under God, flanked by two golden eagles and topped with a golden-winged Lady Liberty, while the base features statues of golden lions.
This arch is intended to enhance visitor experiences at Arlington National Cemetery for veterans, their families, and all Americans, serving as a visual reminder of the sacrifices made by American heroes throughout history, according to White House spokesman Davis Ingle.
While the White House has not disclosed funding details, Trump previously mentioned that leftover funds from the ballroom project could be utilized for the arch's construction.
Upon announcing the project last year, Trump expressed his desire for the arch to mirror the Arc de Triomphe, welcoming visitors to the nation’s capital from Arlington as they cross the Memorial Bridge into the city.
