Brunei’s Tourism Development Department announced on Tuesday that the country expects to welcome ten more international cruise ship calls before the end of 2026, following the recent arrival of the MV Dream. The announcement was reported by Xinhua, indicating the government’s push to grow tourism ahead of Visit Brunei Year 2027.

In a statement, the department said it aims to increase cruise arrivals “to support tourism development and increase local economic participation.” The move reflects Brunei’s intent to capitalize on growing cruise demand in the region.

"Brunei is anticipating 10 international cruise ship calls before the end of 2026," the department said, according to Xinhua.

The department clarified that with MV Dream’s recent visit, it plans to schedule further calls in the coming months. No specific dates or ship names have been disclosed yet.

Brunei’s tourism officials also emphasized that cruise tourism could help expand the country’s presence among international visitors, strengthening its regional competitive edge.

The move comes as Brunei prepares for its Visit Brunei Year 2027, a campaign designed to promote the nation as a unique cruise destination.

While the exact fleet and routes remain unconfirmed, the government is reportedly working on outreach and infrastructure enhancements to accommodate the anticipated traffic.

Industry analysts note that a boost in cruise calls could deliver significant economic benefits, adding to Brunei’s diversification efforts beyond its oil and gas sector.
