In brief

A loud explosion near Aden International Airport was reported on Wednesday after a Houthi-fired ballistic missile was fired toward the area, according to a local security official. Houthi spokesmen warned that a Saudi military cargo plane was on the field with weapons to be used against Yemeni civilians, a claim the Saudi-led coalition has yet to confirm. The incident arrives amid ongoing escalation between the Houthis and the coalition supporting the Yemeni government.

A loud explosion rocked the vicinity of Aden International Airport in southern Yemen on Wednesday after the Houthi group fired a ballistic missile toward the area, a local security official told Xinhua. The blast was heard near the airport, but casualties and damage were not immediately known.

Shortly after the explosion, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea posted a statement on X, urging people at the airport to evacuate immediately. He claimed that a Saudi military cargo aircraft was at the airport transporting weapons that would be used against the Yemeni people.

"A Saudi military cargo aircraft was at the airport transporting weapons that would be used against the Yemeni people," said Yahya Sarea on X.

There was no immediate response from the Saudi-led coalition or the Yemeni government to the Houthi claim. The announcement follows a series of Houthi missile attacks on Aden in recent days amid escalating fighting between the group and government forces supported by the Saudi-led coalition.
