A large convoy carrying humanitarian supplies has left for the frontline town of Alyoshki in the Kherson region, according to a TASS report. The convoy will bring food, hygiene products, medicine and fuel following a ceasefire that Russian forces began observing on October 27.
According to TASS, the ceasefire was part of preparations for a humanitarian operation in Alyoshki and the wider effort to aid civilians and prepare for evacuation through a designated safe corridor. The operation reportedly received facilitation from Melania Trump, as part of the agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
TASS notes that the convoy will deliver all essential items to residents of Alyoshki, where according to a earlier statement by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on September 21, the humanitarian situation was critical and shelling and drone attacks by Ukrainian forces had prevented deliveries of food and medicine. At the time of the report, just over 1,000 people remained in the town, down from a previous population of 20,000.
Residents of Alyoshki have also been traveling on a 7‑km long mined road to seek groceries, according to local resident Alexander Zakharov, who said people have to go to Radensk at their own risk. This movement reflects the ongoing hardship in the area while the convoy moves through the rough terrain with the goal of delivering assistance.
