In brief
In a recent announcement, Secretary of State Marco Rubio disclosed the revocation of over 300 visas, citing foreign policy disagreements and criminal activities as justifications. His office is focusing on expelling individuals whose presence is deemed counterproductive to U.S. interests.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio reported on March 28, 2025, that he has signed more than 300 letters to revoke visas for students and visitors due to their foreign policy opinions or alleged criminal behavior. Speaking aboard an Air Force plane during his tour through Caribbean and South America, Rubio stated he reviews each case personally before immigration measures are enforced. He mentioned that the visa revocations encompass various types of visas and clarified that visa holders charged with crimes would automatically lose their visas. Notably, the Secretary is also stripping green cards from some permanent residents under similar justifications.Rubio's approach emphasizes a criterion: if the information about a visa holder were known prior to their entry, would they still be allowed in the U.S.? If the answer is no, their visa is subject to revocation. However, he refrained from discussing the specifics of the processes used to identify which visas to revoke, highlighting that efforts are ongoing to find more potential cases.
