A private helicopter crashed near the small town of Sainte-Brigide-d'Iberville, about 50 km (31 miles) from Montreal, killing the four people aboard. Authorities first received an emergency call around 14:30 local time (19:30 BST) on Saturday, reporting the helicopter in distress.
Emergency services arrived shortly after, discovering the aircraft on fire. The crew was declared dead at the scene. The victims have not yet been identified; investigators say the process may take several days.
Sergeant Audrey‑Anne Bilodeau of the Sûreté du Québec described the helicopter as a private aircraft and confirmed that the Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation. They are collaborating with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
The crash site, near Rang des Écossais road off Highway 10, was under control of the fire brigade by 22:00 local time (03:00 GMT). Investigators are still working there to recover remains and determine the cause.
