Israeli air strikes hit Lebanese city of Tyre despite Iranian warning to stop attacks
Israel launched a series of air and artillery strikes on the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, the Lebanese health ministry reported, on Tuesday. Eight residents were killed and 32 more injured, according to provisional figures while rescue teams were still working the rubble.
The attacks prompted the Israeli Defence Forces to issue a new evacuation order for the entire city, including the Christian quarter, a first for the area. Residents along the main roads to the north fled in large numbers, creating significant traffic delays.
In the days leading up to the strikes, Iran had publicly warned Israel that further attacks in Lebanon would be met with retaliation. Israeli officials, however, maintain that their actions are directed at Hezbollah fighters operating near the border.
The conflict has its roots in the broader Israel–Iran–Hezbollah triangle, following a chain of events that began in March when Hezbollah fired rockets into Israeli territory in response to an Israeli strike that killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Israel’s subsequent campaign has escalated in response to Hezbollah’s continued attacks.
The United States has been pushing for a stable ceasefire and a diplomatic resolution, but the cycle of air strikes and counter‑strikes remains.

Lebanese officials reported at least 13 deaths in the broader southern region, including a pre‑dawn drone attack on Kfar Roummane, a town near Nabatieh. Israel also claimed to have killed a “terrorist” who crossed from Lebanon into the Galilee.
Despite an earlier brief pause in hostilities, the back‑and‑forth pattern continues, with Iran accusing Israel of “crossing all red lines” after a strike on Beirut and Israel accusing Iran of ballistic missile launches.
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the country was “holding fire at the moment” but warned that the fight against Iran and Hezbollah was ongoing. The Israeli military has halted certain bombings of Iranian targets following U.S. urge.
