Six people aboard a medical transport aircraft have been declared presumed dead after the Gulfstream G‑100 vanished en route from Bermuda to Boston.
The United States Coast Guard ceased its search off Nantucket on Sunday evening. Latitude Air Ambulance’s statement confirmed the four members of its crew, the patient, and a family escort were all presumed lost.
Flight records show the aircraft left Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport at 23:40 local time and was scheduled to land at Boston’s Logan International Airport at 01:30 EDT. Communication with the ship was lost just after 01:00, and a debris field was uncovered the following evening.
Analysis of flight data revealed a steep descent from roughly 7,300 m (24,000 ft) to about 3,300 m (11,000 ft) before radio silence. Interneections with air traffic control suggested an emergency declaration, although the pilot’s final transmission remained unclear.
Latitude Air Ambulance has stated it will continue cooperating with investigators and will refrain from speculation regarding the cause of the tragedy while supporting the bereaved families.
