At least 12 people have been killed and 20 injured in overnight Russian missile and drone strikes on Kyiv and the wider region, officials said, with six of the casualties identified as railway workers of the state Ukrzaliznytsia company after a depot in the capital was hit.
Russia stated that a “massive strike using high‑precision weapons” targeted Ukraine’s military and energy facilities, and added that one person was also killed in Ukrainian strikes on Russia’s western Belgorod region. The conflict has continued to inflict civilian losses while the Russian military maintains its narrative of targeting only military sites.
Overnight in Kyiv, eight people were killed and fires reported in three city districts, while another four were killed in the nearby town of Boryspil after a residential building was hit. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said nearly 350 rescue workers had been working through the night in Kyiv and surrounding areas following the latest attacks.
The attacks represent the sixth consecutive day of sustained Russian drone and missile raids on Kyiv, part of a broader strategy that aims to exhaust Ukrainian air defences and undermine civilian morale. Russia’s military warned over the weekend that it was preparing to carry out “massive” strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities.
