India’s activist Sonam Wangchuk has ended a 26‑day hunger strike after fasting in support of youth‑led protests demanding education reforms.
In a post on X, Wangchuk—better known as "Sonam sir"—said he resigned the strike after a long negotiation on various conditions and to avert possible violence in the country.
The activist, 59, had taken the fast to support the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), whose members also demand the resignation of India’s education minister.
Earlier, Wangchuk declared he had lost 11 kg (24 lb) but was "still alive." He was forcibly removed from a protest venue in Delhi last Saturday and taken to hospital.
