Stabbing at Edmonton Sikh Temple Injures Two; Arrest Made

Police arrested a suspect after a stabbing attack inside Edmonton’s Nanaksar Gurdwara on Friday morning, leaving two people injured.

The attack unfolded at about 05:00 local time (12:00 GMT). Police have not yet revealed the suspect’s identity or motive.

The incident follows last week’s investigation into threatening calls to two Sikh gurdwaras in Calgary, located just two hours to the south.

The World Sikh Organization, based in Canada, called the attack deeply troubling, noting that a copy of the Sikh scripture inside the temple was reportedly desecrated. The organization described the perpetrator as an “intruder” who entered the Gurdwara and attacked individuals inside. “Police are currently on scene and the Gurdwara has been closed to the public while the investigation continues,” the statement read.

Calgary’s mayor, Jeromy Farkas, condemned the threats in a social media post, calling them “utterly disgusting.” He added, “Gurdwaras are places of hospitality, generosity and service. Everyone is welcome.”

Investigators continue to work on the case while community leaders call for calm and unity amid rising tensions toward Sikh communities across the country.
