Donald Trump speaking at his Florida golf club

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has said he wants to transform his Trump International Golf Club into a presidential retreat that would resemble the historic Camp David.

He says the club would structurally cover construction costs as a 'gift' to Americans, enabling free membership for all future presidents and hospitality for visiting heads of state.

Trump pointed to the club’s proximity to the airport, noting it would allow presidents to spend weekends there without the hiding behind windows risks of more traditional venues.

The plan would add a distinctive high‑security environment, guarded by Marines and with restricted airspace, similar to the current state‑owned Camp David in Maryland.

While supporters view the move as an act of public service, critics question the blurring of private property and official duties, referencing the Trump‑era tradition of personal projects with national symbolism.
