Dan Bongino has announced that he will step down from his role as the FBI's Deputy Director in January 2026.

In a post on X, Bongino extended thanks to President Donald Trump, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Attorney General Pam Bondi for the opportunity to serve. His decision follows a statement from Trump expressing that Bongino did a great job and wanted to return to his media career.

Bongino, who took on the role in February, is known for his prior career as a New York City police officer and a U.S. Secret Service agent. He has cultivated a significant following through his podcast and various media appearances in recent years.

His appointment to the FBI was met with skepticism from the FBI Agents Association, representing approximately 14,000 current and former agents, particularly because of his lack of prior FBI experience.

In his farewell message, Bongino thanked the American people, stating, I want to thank you, my fellow Americans, for the privilege to serve you. God bless America, and all those who defend Her. He has previously faced backlash for promoting conspiracy theories but retracted some of his claims after joining the agency.
