Eurovision 2027 to Take Place in Burgas, Bulgaria

Following Bulgaria’s first Eurovision victory last year, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Bulgarian National Television (BNT) have confirmed that the 2027 contest will be staged in the coastal city of Burgas.

The competition, scheduled from 12 to 15 May, will unfold at Arena Burgas – the country’s newest multi‑purpose sports and entertainment venue opened in 2023 – and will include rehearsals, two semi‑finals and a grand final.

“This venue delivers the technical facilities and infrastructure needed for a world‑class event,” said Eurovision director Martin Green. “Burgas will bring something truly Bulgarian while staying unmistakably Eurovision.”

Burgas’s selection followed a competitive process that also considered Sofia, Varna and Plovdiv. Mayor Dimitar Nikolov described hosting the contest as an exceptional honour and an opportunity to showcase Bulgaria’s culture, hospitality and professionalism to millions of viewers worldwide.

In a parallel development, the EBU has updated its rules to exclude from hosting countries that are involved in an armed conflict following a win. The amendment follows criticism of Israel’s participation amid military actions in Gaza, and it also impacts Ukraine, whose 2023 victory was followed by a safety assessment that led the UK to host the event in Liverpool instead of Kyiv.

The new rule will bar any winning nation that faces a "sensitive geopolitical situation" affecting the security, safety or stability of its state or region from hosting the following year’s contest. The decision underscores the EBU’s commitment to neutral and safe broadcasting conditions for all participating broadcasters.
