Sophia Laforteza Steps Away from Katseye for Mental Health Break
\
\The Filipino‑American vocalist of the international K‑pop girl group Katseye announced on 7 August 2026 that she will temporarily step away from the ensemble, citing concerns over her mental health.
\The move follows a similar decision by fellow member Manon Bannerman, who the same year entered a hiatus to prioritise her well‑being. Both departures come at a time when Katseye, whose 2023‑formed lineup of six singers has already earned two Grammy nominations, is facing intense scrutiny and an influx of online threats.
\“We understand how much EYEKONS were looking forward to seeing Sophia on stage, but it is imperative that her mental health and wellness are prioritised,” said the label HYBE × Geffen, adding that the group will continue promotional activities with four members until Laforteza’s condition is re‑assessed in September.
\Laforteza spoke to fans in a personal Instagram message, saying: “Making this decision wasn’t easy, but I’m learning that health has to come first. I promise I’ll work hard to heal properly and come back stronger.”
\
\Experts in the music industry observe that the high-pressure environment of pop groups can exacerbate mental-health challenges, and many artists now prioritise breaks and counselling. Katseye’s organisers have emphasised that the safety and long‑term health of artists remains their highest priority.
\The group’s label noted that this decision was reached after “open and thoughtful conversations together” about the evolving situation and the importance of sustainable artistic careers. Meanwhile, fans and advocacy groups have begun to use the announcement as a platform to highlight the growing need for mental-health support in the music industry, especially for young entertainers facing global scrutiny.
