Celebrity Lawyers Withdraw from D4vd’s Murder Trial
US singer D4vd’s high-profile legal team has pulled out of his upcoming murder case, leaving the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office to lead the defense.
D4vd, a 21‑year‑old musician known as David Anthony Burke, pleaded not guilty to the murder of 14‑year‑old Celeste Rivas Hernandez and other related charges on 20 April. Prosecutors allege the killing was motivated by sexual abuse and a threatened revelation that could ruin his career.
Lawyers Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter announced their withdrawal on 31 August, citing the need for an appointed counsel after the judge granted the request. The public defenders are now preparing for a pre‑trial hearing scheduled for 19 October.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the prosecution is ready to proceed, though the change in counsel could cause delays, additional evidence review or motions to dismiss.
Prosecutors claim both financial gain and alleged threats from Hernandez—documented in texts—link the case to special circumstances that could lead to a death sentence.
