A 31‑year‑old British woman died after a stabbing at the Rosenheim railway station in Bavaria early Sunday morning, police said.
The victim was attacked shortly before 01:00 local time (00:00 BST) and was taken to a hospital where she later succumbed to severe injuries.
A 27‑year‑old German man was arrested at the scene immediately. The background of the attack and the motive are still under investigation and authorities have not yet confirmed whether the victim and suspect recognised each other.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed an argument or a physical altercation at the station during the late Saturday/early Sunday hours to come forward and provide information.
The suspect, from the Fürstenfeldbruck district, is scheduled to appear before a magistrate later that day, according to German news agency DPA.
Rosenheim is a key rail hub for journeys to Austrian cities such as Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck, and the city is currently hosting its Herbstfest beer‑festival. Mayor Abuzar Erdogan stated there were no indications of a security threat linked to the festival or the incident.
The criminal investigation department is working closely with the public prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances and motive behind the crime urgently, his statement continued. A foreign office spokesperson added that the UK is supporting the victim’s family and maintaining contact with local authorities.
