Egypt's Interior Ministry has arrested several men accused of executing a fraud scheme that impersonated judges on social media and staged fake court rooms to con citizens. The suspects used forged identity cards, a fake judicial sash and a weapon. An unemployed Cairo resident and a Giza student confessed to organising a gang that promised housing allocations through government channels, while court employees were also detained. The case was uncovered after a citizen reported being scammed by someone claiming judicial authority. The arrested individuals are slated for an expedited criminal trial.

Several men have been detained by Egypt's Interior Ministry after a scheme was uncovered in which fake judges posed on social media to deceive citizens and extract money.

The Ministry said the plot included fabricated court scenes and the use of a judicial sash and forged identity cards, which the suspects used to portray themselves as legitimate officials.

The chief suspect, an unemployed man from Cairo, admitted creating a corrupt group that promised to secure housing allocations through government agencies. Police seized a firearm, a fake sash, and identity papers that bore a bogus judicial title.

Other involved parties, including a student from Giza and court employees, were also arrested. The case was brought to light when a citizen reported being scammed by a person who claimed to be a judge, prompting an investigation.

The suspects are expected to face an expedited criminal trial, according to the state newspaper al‑Ahram.
